Regular sweeping, suitable cleaning and prompt attention to spills help keep a resin-bound driveway looking its best. This guide from Driveways 4 You explains routine care, pressure washing, seasonal checks and when to ask your installer for advice.
How Do You Maintain a Resin Driveway?
Start with the aftercare instructions supplied when your driveway is completed. These should explain when the surface can be used and any requirements specific to the installed resin system.
For ongoing care, focus on removing debris, keeping drainage clear and checking for changes in the surface. Match cleaning products and equipment to the manufacturer's instructions.
A Simple Resin Driveway Maintenance Checklist
| Task | When to Check | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Leaves and debris | Regularly, especially during autumn. | Sweep away leaves, twigs and accumulated dirt. |
| General cleaning | When the surface becomes dirty. | Use a cleaning method approved for your installed system. |
| Spills | As soon as noticed. | Contain the spill and seek suitable cleaning advice. |
| Drainage | After leaf fall and heavy rain. | Check accessible channels and outlets for debris. |
| Surface condition | Occasionally and before cleaning. | Look for cracks, loose aggregate or movement at edges. |
Regular Sweeping and Routine Cleaning
Sweep the surface with a suitable outdoor broom to remove leaves and debris. DALTEX recommends regular sweeping and rinsing with clean water as part of routine maintenance.
Pay attention to sheltered corners and areas beside planting beds, where material can collect. Remove debris before washing rather than pushing it towards drainage channels.
Can You Pressure Wash a Resin Driveway?
Yes, provided the installed system permits it and the correct technique is used. DALTEX's general guidance specifies a fan or flat spray, a pressure setting no higher than 150 bar and a nozzle distance of at least 20cm.
These are limits rather than a recommendation to use maximum pressure. Follow your driveway's aftercare instructions, use cool water and avoid washing in freezing conditions. Ask your installer before cleaning a damaged area.
Dealing With Oil, Fuel and Other Spills
Act promptly when a spill occurs. Contain and absorb it rather than spreading it across the driveway or washing it into a drain.
Contact your installer for a compatible cleaning method, particularly for fuel, solvents or persistent stains. Do not experiment with strong chemicals or use solvents to remove a mark.
Moss, Algae and Weeds
If growth appears, identify a treatment suitable for the resin system and follow its instructions. Check compatibility before using moss treatments, weedkillers or other outdoor cleaners.
Avoid scraping or digging into the surface with sharp tools. If growth repeatedly returns in one area, photograph it and ask your installer to assess it.
Keep Drainage Clear
Check accessible drainage channels, grates and outlets for leaves and accumulated debris. After rain, note any water that remains in the same location and whether it is a new occurrence.
A resin surface does not remove the need to look after the drainage arrangements designed for the driveway. Persistent pooling should be assessed rather than assumed to be a cleaning problem.
Protect the Surface During Other Work
Tell builders, delivery drivers and other contractors that the driveway is resin-bound. Arrange appropriate protection before placing equipment or carrying out work nearby.
Avoid dragging heavy objects across it, and protect it from cement, paint and other contamination. Ask the installer before allowing loads beyond those the driveway was designed to support.
Looking After a Newly Installed Driveway
Use the handover instructions to confirm when walking, parking and other activities can begin. Do not rely on a general curing time found online.
Keep a copy of your quotation and aftercare information, including the product details and installer contact number. These records are useful if you need cleaning or maintenance advice later.
When Should You Contact Your Installer?
Ask for advice if you notice:
- A crack that is new or becoming more pronounced
- An area of loose aggregate or visible surface loss
- Movement around edging or adjoining features
- Persistent standing water
- A stain that routine approved cleaning does not remove
Take an overall photograph and a close-up before attempting treatment. Include when the issue appeared and whether it followed a spill, impact or other work.
