Driveways 4 You replaced an uneven, weed-covered cobblelock driveway at Loretto Crescent, Rathfarnham, with a new SMA tarmac driveway featuring natural granite framing, a double row of natural stone entrance blocks and complementary granite risers around a planting area.
Project Overview
The existing cobblelock driveway at this Loretto Crescent, Rathfarnham property had become uneven, with weeds growing through the joints. The surface needed to be removed so the ground could be repaired and prepared for the replacement driveway.
The new design combined an SMA tarmac surface with natural stone entrance detailing, granite block framing and a defined planting area along one side.
Removing the Cobblelock and Preparing the Ground
The old cobblelock surface was removed, allowing the underlying ground to be repaired and prepared for a suitable sub-base.
Attention to the foundation was an essential part of the work, providing the support needed for the new tarmac surface and surrounding stone detailing.
Checking Levels and Drainage Falls
The driveway falls were checked during preparation to ensure rainwater could flow off the surface rather than collect in low spots.
The levels of the driveway and its surrounding stone frame were considered together before the SMA tarmac was installed.
Natural Stone Entrance Detailing
A double row of natural stone blocks was installed across the driveway entrance to create a clearly defined threshold.
This entrance detail complements the granite framing and provides an attractive transition onto the new tarmac driveway.
Granite Framing and Planting Area Risers
The prepared driveway was framed with natural granite blocks, creating a defined border around the new surface.
Complementary granite risers were also installed around a planting area along one side of the driveway. The coordinated stonework brings the driveway edges and planting area together within the finished design.
SMA Tarmac Installation
With the ground preparation and stone detailing complete, the SMA tarmac driveway was installed to match the levels of the natural stone frame.
The dark tarmac surface contrasts with the granite blocks, highlighting the driveway border and entrance detailing.
