Driveways 4 You transformed an uneven, weed-covered driveway in Drimnagh, Dublin, installing a new sub-base, natural silver granite framing, a double-row entrance border, granite planting area risers, a matching entrance step and an SMA tarmac surface laid to the correct levels and falls.
Project Overview
The existing driveway at this Drimnagh, Dublin property had become difficult for the homeowners to maintain. Extensive weed growth and an uneven surface had affected its appearance and everyday use.
The installation also included four rows of unevenly laid natural stone cobblelock. The project involved removing the old materials and preparing a new foundation before installing the replacement driveway and coordinated granite features.
Clearing the Existing Driveway
The first stage was to remove the overgrown weeds, the uneven driveway surface and the four rows of existing natural stone cobblelock.
Clearing these materials allowed the team to address the ground beneath the old installation and prepare the driveway for its new foundation.
Preparing a New Sub-Base
The ground was properly prepared and a new sub-base installed to provide suitable support for the replacement driveway.
This preparation was central to the project, addressing the underlying construction rather than simply laying a new surface over the existing problems.
Natural Silver Granite Framing
A natural silver granite block frame was installed around the driveway, creating a clearly defined boundary for the new tarmac surface.
At the front of the driveway, a double row of granite blocks defines the entrance. This wider stone detail provides a distinct threshold and complements the surrounding granite border.
Granite Risers for Future Planting
Natural silver granite risers were installed to define an area for future planting alongside the driveway.
The risers complement the driveway framing and entrance step, creating a coordinated stone finish while leaving space for the homeowners to develop their planting beds.
New Silver Granite Step
A new silver granite entrance step was installed to complement the driveway framing and planting area risers.
The matching granite features bring consistency to the entrance, with the lighter stone contrasting against the dark SMA tarmac.
SMA Tarmac and Correct Falls
The new SMA tarmac driveway was installed to the correct levels, with falls established to help rainwater flow off the finished surface.
The tarmac was finished to meet the granite frame, creating a coordinated junction between the driveway surface and its stone borders.
Finishing the Driveway Entrance
Cracks in the adjacent public pathway were also filled as part of the finishing work, improving the appearance of the approach to the driveway.
Together with the double-row granite entrance border, planting area risers and new step, these details helped complete the transformation of the property entrance.
