Driveways 4 You completed this garden renovation on Kilnamanagh Road in Walkinstown, Dublin 12, replacing the old patio, gravel, lawn and concrete paths with a coordinated outdoor layout. The finished garden combines light-grey porcelain paving, natural silver granite details, stone-clad raised planting beds and artificial lawn areas.
Project Overview
The existing garden contained several different surfaces, including an older concrete patio, gravel, lawn and concrete pathways. The renovation brought these areas together through a new layout with a main porcelain patio, connecting paths, defined planting beds and artificial lawn.
Our own experienced team carried out the work from removal and ground preparation through to the paving, granite details and final lawn installation.
The Garden Before Renovation
The original patio sat beside the rear doors, with lawn, gravel and concrete paths occupying the remaining garden. Removing these surfaces allowed the new installation to be planned as a complete garden renovation.
Removing the Existing Surfaces
The old patio, gravel area, lawn and concrete paths were removed to prepare the ground for the new sub-base and garden layout.
With the existing surfaces cleared, our team could establish the positions of the main patio, connecting paths, artificial lawn areas and raised planting beds.
Checking Levels, Drainage and Falls
Levels were checked around the house, including the rainwater hoppers and drainage access junctions. The proposed finished surfaces were considered in relation to the home’s damp-proof course before the falls were established.
This preparation helped coordinate the patio height, adjoining pathways and changes in level across the garden. The drainage access points were also considered within the paving layout.
Silver Granite Framing and Patio Risers
A natural silver granite frame was installed to define the garden layout, with matching stone risers forming the edge of the raised patio.
The granite gives the change in level a clearly defined finish and coordinates with the capping on the raised planting beds.
Setting out these details before laying the porcelain helped establish how the paved surfaces, lawn areas and planting beds would meet.
Natural Stone-Clad Raised Planting Beds
Raised planting beds were constructed and clad in contrasting natural stone, then finished with natural silver granite capping.
The darker textured cladding contrasts with the lighter porcelain paving and granite. The beds retain dedicated planting space around the garden while giving the layout a consistent boundary detail.
The granite capping connects the raised beds visually with the patio risers and surrounding frame.
Installing the Porcelain Patio and Paths
The selected porcelain paving has a light-grey appearance with white veining. It was installed across the main patio and connecting pathways to create a coordinated finish throughout the garden.
The main patio sits beside the rear doors, with a granite-faced change in level leading to the surrounding paths and lawn areas.
Careful alignment of the paving joints helps connect the different sections of the layout. The pathways also provide access through the garden and towards the outbuilding.
New Artificial Lawn Areas
Artificial lawn was installed within the new layout, bringing green areas into the garden alongside the porcelain paving and natural stone.
This choice reduces the mowing associated with the previous lawn while retaining a contrast between the green areas and the paved surfaces.
The connecting paths divide the layout into defined sections and provide routes between the patio, planting beds and outbuilding.
The Completed Garden Renovation
The finished garden replaces the previous mix of ageing surfaces with a coordinated arrangement of porcelain paving, artificial lawn and raised planting beds.
The light-grey paving creates a consistent finish across the patio and paths. Silver granite framing and risers define the edges, while the darker stone cladding adds contrast around the planting areas.
